A vitamina K pode, ainda, ser encontrada na sua forma sint\u00e9tica, denominada menadiona ou vitamina K3.<\/p>\n<p>O processo de absor\u00e7\u00e3o de vitamina K ocorre sempre na presen\u00e7a de lip\u00eddios. A filoquinona \u00e9 comumente absorvida no jejuno e \u00edleo, enquanto que as manaquinonas s\u00e3o absorvidas nas por\u00e7\u00f5es distais do intestino delgado e c\u00f3lon. Na mucosa intestinal ligam-se a quilom\u00edcrons e s\u00e3o transportadas at\u00e9 o f\u00edgado por via linf\u00e1tica. S\u00e3o distribu\u00eddas pelo organismo ligadas a VLDL.<\/p>\n<p>O organismo possui um estoque de cerca de 50 a 100\u00b5g de vitamina K e essa reserva pode ser reduzida em 75% em apenas tr\u00eas dias. Esta vitamina pode ser rapidamente catabolizada e excretada pelo f\u00edgado, principalmente atrav\u00e9s da bile.<\/p>\n<p>A vitamina K \u00e9 bastante associada ao processo de coagula\u00e7\u00e3o sangu\u00ednea, sendo, no entanto, tamb\u00e9m associada \u00e0 redu\u00e7\u00e3o do risco de doen\u00e7a cardiovascular e osteoporose. No processo de coagula\u00e7\u00e3o sangu\u00ednea, a vitamina K participa como cofator no processo de ativa\u00e7\u00e3o de amino\u00e1cidos que participam da bioss\u00edntese de fatores de coagula\u00e7\u00e3o sangu\u00ednea, como a protrombina. A protrombina \u00e9 precursora de trombina, enzima respons\u00e1vel pela transforma\u00e7\u00e3o do fibrinog\u00eanio em fibrina insol\u00favel, que participa ativamente do processo de coagula\u00e7\u00e3o. A defici\u00eancia de vitamina K est\u00e1 associada a maior tempo de protrombina e eventos hemorr\u00e1gicos. Na sa\u00fade \u00f3ssea, a vitamina age sobre a osteocalcina, permitindo sua liga\u00e7\u00e3o ao c\u00e1lcio. Portanto, a defici\u00eancia de vitamina K estaria associada a uma calcifica\u00e7\u00e3o \u00f3ssea prejudicada.<\/p>\n<p>Nos alimentos, sua melhor biodisponibilidade \u00e9 dependente da presen\u00e7a de \u00f3leos e gorduras. Vegetais folhosos verde-escuros, como espinafre, br\u00f3colis e alguns tipos de alface s\u00e3o consideradas as principais fontes de vitamina K, e em segundo lugar aparecem os \u00f3leos e gorduras. O conte\u00fado de vitamina K em alguns alimentos pode ser observado na tabela 1.
